Co-op’s Castlewood distribution centre is located in Nottingham and is an integral part of the company’s logistics network, responsible for servicing over 500 stores across Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Home to over 1,000 members of staff, it is vital that their employees are tested on a regular basis to prevent an outbreak of Covid-19.
As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, many key workers at the Co-op Castlewood site were unable to work. The NHS Track and Trace app was instructing many of their essential employees to stay at home and self-isolate, despite only a small number actually testing positive for Covid-19. This severely jeopardised Co-op’s distribution network as it was under-staffed and unable to service its 500 stores effectively. Co-op were seeking a testing solution that would enable their key workers to return to work in a safe way, without further risking their operations.
Leon Exton-Russell, General Manager of the Castlewood site, was concerned about the safety of his workforce. He reached out to Moore MedTech to implement a Covid-19 testing programme that would get their key workers back into the workplace safely. Moore MedTech provided everything from test kits and PPE to a team of nurses and technicians. The site was mobilised and ready to accept employees for lateral flow tests within a couple of weeks.
Leon spoke to a member of our team about his experience: “One of Co-op’s core values is ‘show you care’. This testing programme has allowed us to make sure that we are doing everything that we can to protect our employees. Moore MedTech have provided a professional service that has helped us to identify people with the virus and prevent them from infecting others.” The response from members of staff has been overwhelmingly positive
As many as 1 in 3 individuals with the Covid-19 virus are asymptomatic, therefore it is vital that testing continues as lockdown restrictions lift and businesses open their doors to employees and customers again. Moore MedTech are helping businesses of all sizes manage effective testing programmes. Whether staff are tested on-site or at home, lateral flow testing can reduce viral transmission and increase employee confidence as they return to the workplace.
